Week 14

Week 14 {22.7.21}

Hola!๐Ÿ‘‹ Today we are back to talk to you about what we learnt this week! In todays lesson, we learnt about product sketches.

Product sketches are designs that serve as a creative expression in product design๐ŸŽญ. And is considered the principle approach through which product designers internalize a product's design concepts. Sketches and drawings enhance understanding and provide visual clues๐Ÿ”Ž for possible refinements and revisions of the product.

Activity 1๐Ÿ“‘- Start Sketching

For this activity, we are supposed to practice drawing a few things, that are essential in product designs, especially in the prototyping phase. Things we needed to draw included:

  1. Straight Lines
  2. Curves
  3. Circles
  4. Ellipses
  5. One-point Perspective
  6. 2-Point Perspective
For the straight line drawing, we were taught to draw a line from one point to another using a single stroke, without lifting up the wrist. Here is how one us fared
Figure 1. Straight line sketch

For the curve drawings, we had to draw 3 dots in which we want the curve to pass through, and draw a line that connect the dots. Below is one our attempts!! tho it might not look too nice๐Ÿ˜”
Figure 2. Curve line sketch

Next we have the circle sketches! we learnt to draw 2 parallel horizontal lines first, then with a single stroke, draw a circle that touches the 2 parallel lines.
Figure 3. Circles sketch

Next, we drew ellipses. By drawing 3 parallel vertical lines 3cm apart and in one stroke, craw ellipses touching all 3 lines.
Figure 4. Ellipses sketch

Before we show you how our one point perspective drawing turned out, let us tell you what it is! It is a drawing that has a single vanishing point, usually directly opposite the viewer's eye and usually on the horizon line. All lines parallel parallel with the viewer's line of sight recede to the horizon towards this vanishing point.

Figure 6. One-point perspective

Next, we have 2-point perspective, defines as having 2 vanishing points that represent 2 convergence points and infinite distance away. All geometric objects that are arranged perpendicular or parallel to each other will have drawn sides that converge on each vanishing point.

Activity 2๐Ÿ“‘- Product design sketch
For this next activity, we were tasked to do up a sketch of our chemical product either by using 1 point perspective or 2 point perspective in our drawings. As such we had to sketch out a coffee maker!!☕ It took us many attempts to draw but we finally came up with one that looked decent!!! As they say its the effort that counts right?
Figure 10. Coffee maker sketch

Tadaa!! Our drawing! We took a bit of time to search up a reference for the coffee maker, as there are many different types out there, and the one we were specifically looking for, was the type with working principles based on buoyancy. How do you think we can improve on a coffee maker?

Figure 11. Specification Table

And above is the specification for the chemical product we would like to make!

Oop๐Ÿ˜ฆ looks like that's it for today! Till next time!๐Ÿ‘‹
